Searching for visible-light counterparts to X-ray sources detected by NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory, astronomers used Hubble’s Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) in 2005 to capture this close-up image (upper right) of stars and nebulae in one arm of spiral galaxy Caldwell 5 (IC 342). The ground-based image in the lower left, provided for context, was taken by the 4-meter Mayall telescope at Kitt Peak National Observatory in Arizona.
