NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover is negotiating a steeply sloping route up Jezero Crater’s western wall, with the aim of cresting the rim in early December.  The rover landed on Mars in 2021, with a key objective to collect samples that may contain signs of ancient microbial life.

As of October 2024, Perseverance has driven over 18.65 miles, and has collected 24 samples of rock and regolith as well as one air sample.
