Citizen CATE Experiment
Team Mission
CATE operated a network of over 60 sites from Oregon to South Carolina during the 2017 August 21 eclipse. Volunteers ranged from K-12 students to retired professionals, including 27 universities, 22 high schools, 8 informal education centers and more than one dozen citizen scientists. CATE coronal observations revolutionized velocity and acceleration measurements of the plasma in solar polar plumes. Volunteers keep their equipment after the eclipse and participate in additional astronomy citizen science programs.

What does your team hope to achieve?
Capture the attention of citizen scientists by involving them in solar physics research for the total eclipse, and continue to engage them in additional astronomy projects after the eclipse.
